Some time-tested recipes for a healthy glowing skin!

Namaskar!

As discussed in the first blog, your inner bodily health is directly connected to your skin health and beauty. The 3 pillars of a good lifestyle are Ahaar i.e. food, Vihaar i.e. daily routine activities and Pathyaapathya i.e. general do’s and don’ts.

Today we will talk about the 1st pillar ‘Ahaar’- i.e. Food. It’s rightly said that “YOU are what you EAT.” This in itself is a vast topic but let’s focus on the skin health aspect for now. Before we talk about food, let’s have a look at some good eating habits.

  • Eating home cooked food.
  • Avoiding outside food if possible as it is mostly more oily , spicy and less clean.
  • Eating fresh food and avoiding stale food.
  • Avoiding late dinners.
  • Including fibre rich food like fruits, vegetables & protein in your diet.

Certain preparations like milkshakes, combining fish and milk, combining water with meals, fruit salads, etc are considered to be Viruddhanna i.e. Toxin generating combinations of food. This incompatible diet often leads to indigestion, increase in toxicity in the body and can have adverse effect on your gut health. All these issues indirectly or directly can affect your skin health.

Just like the concept of Viruddhanna, we also have Yogya-anna i.e. Compatible diet which promotes good bodily health.

Let’s discuss a few examples of Yogya-anna that are specifically good for your skin health

Haldi (Turmeric)

Start your day with a glass of warm water with a pinch of Haldi in it. Ayurved rates haldi highest for its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, immunity boosting, depigmentation and skin glowing properties.

Amla

Indian gooseberry is another magical fruit for both skin and hair. Eat a slice of fresh Amla daily or preserve it by deep freezing its paste. You can also sundry it and add a dash of rock salt, cumin seeds powder and a little bit of black pepper to it for consumption. Make Amla Sherbet or Moraawla i.e. Amla Murabba and consume daily. These are just a few basic preparations, feel free to get creative!

Likewise, Honey, Saffron, Almond and Homemade Ghee are a boon for good skin health! Try to consume these regularly in adequate quantity.

We will talk about the remaining two pillars (Vihaar & Pathyaapathya) on the upcoming blogs. Stay tuned!

And until then keep smiling and glowing!

Shubham Bhavatu!
